inkskinned:

it always really bothered me when wait staff ignored me + my friends just because we were young bc we are all really respectful people but the assumption was that we wouldn’t tip

anyway so fast fowards to when i became a waitress and one day this group of scrubbyass kids came in…

Holy hellfire. Its perfect I could never love it more. This has more meaning to me than I can ever fully explain. When I was a little kid my parents fought and screeeeamed at each other constantly and JRR Tolkein’s books were my haven. And then the movies came out when i was starting to struggle with my self image, and unfortunately I was basically losing the war against my own mind, but again they gave me a haven, something constant that could trust to always be there for me to go to, something that filled me with hope.
This year I found out I had cancer… And I knew exactly where to turn. When all else failed I watched them again and again. And really appreciated a single line from each movie for treatment.
From the Fellowship of the Ring I focused on Frodo and Gandalf’s conversation in Moria: “I wish the ring had never come to me, I wish none of this had happened.” — “So do all that live to see such times… But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

From the Two Towers Sam’s speech to Frodo really got to me. “It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened.
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.”

And finally in the return of the king when Arwen quotes All That is Gold Does Not Glitter
“From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king”

I chose this last one because it really struck home. Going from running a half marathon to be unable to run 2 miles was horrible. And it really wrecked my psyche. But as Sam said “even darkness must pass” and getting a quote about being reborn from the ashes in between my cancer scars is my way of saying Fuck You Cancer. Mimzys back!

  • JRR Tolkien: Dwarves aren't supposed to be attractive.
  • Peter Jackson: And now here's one for the ladies...

GUYS

THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT DOWN

AND REPLACE IT WITH THE BULLSHIT ENDANGERED SPECIES MANAGEMENT SELF-DETERMINATION ACT

THAT ALLOWS STATES TO DECIDE  IF THEY EVEN WANT TO ABIDE BY LAWS PROTECTING SPECIES AT ALL

AND DELISTS SPECIES AFTER ONLY FIVE YEARS

DOES ANYONE ELSE EVEN CARE
